ESB Scoops Two Major International Awards

Construction News Image
ESB Networks has won two major international awards.

The awards recognise Ireland's electricity network as being among the most progressive in the world and leaders in smart-grid research.

The first award was the Leadership in Infrastructure Transformation award at the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco. This award recognises the successful installation of a state of the art Oracle NMS to replace the previous Operations Management System (OMS) that ESB Networks had installed in 2007.

The new system embeds a fully resilient and scalable OMS into the heart of the ESB Networks Operational Technology landscape, playing a vital role in connecting the real time state of the electricity distribution system. Our GIS and SCADA systems combine to form an integrated Distribution Management System, which provides real time information to all ESB Networks customers about planned and fault outages.

ESB Networks were also recently presented the prestigious EPRI PDU Technology Transfer Award for Leadership in Integration. In presenting the award, EPRI highlighted that ESB Networks is the leading utility in applying data management to maximise renewable integration and electrification. EPRI also noted that the winners of this award have taken EPRI R&D to new levels in shaping and improving an integrated energy network.
