According to reports, the remains, thought to be human, were discovered by workers who were removing utilities ahead of the installation of the transport route. The bones were found around 1.5 metres underground and are thought to consist of a hip bone and leg bones.

Archeologists were then called to the site – at the front gates of Trinity College Dublin – shortly after 9am on Wednesday.
A spokesperson from Luas Cross City said the site was cordoned off after the discovery in order to allow archaeologists to investigate the remains. Work on the Luas project is continuing on areas outside of the cordoned-off section.
