The open sewerage, on Clemont Gardens and Charlotte Street, damaged businesses and homes.
SDLP MLA Karen McKevitt described it as a "very serious health risk".

She said: "The contractors were on-site when the incident happened and were able to respond quickly but the damage was already done.
"I met with the Newry and Mourne District Council's Environmental Health personnel and local DoE Roads Service who delivered sandbags in the event of further rain.
"NI Water must examine the failure of the sewerage pumping station. I have spoken to the Minister Danny Kennedy to ask that he work to ensure that this happens as a matter of urgency."
