Pro-Fracking Firm Appointed To Carry Out Feasibility Study

The Green Party is calling on the Environment Minister to confirm why a pro-fracking company has been appointed to carry out a feasibility study about fracking in Ireland.

Spokesperson on Energy, Cllr Ossian Smyth, said Minister White needs to clarify without delay the terms under which the contract were awarded, and if his Department were aware of CDM Smith's record in working with the fossil fuel industry.

Cllr Smyth said: "The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency's study into fracking is now at risk of collapse as this revelation undermines its independence and credibility.

"I am calling on Minister Alex White to answer without delay if: 1) His Department were aware of links between CDM Smith and the pro-fracking industry before the contract was awarded, and 2) If they were aware, was it decided that these links were acceptable?"
