New Houses To Be Built In Carlow And Kilkenny

11 housing schemes are to start in Carlow and Kilkenny.

The projects are part of of over €25 million of the Government's Social Housing Strategy.

Fine Gael Bye-Election Candidate Cllr David Fitzgerald welcomed the news.

He said: "Last month the Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly and the Minister for Housing, Paudie Coffey announced that over €61 million would be invested in Carlow/Kilkenny to provide social housing. Today we learn that construction is to begin on more than a third of that tranche.


"Six of the eleven projects in this constituency are shovel ready and will create valuable jobs in the construction sector. Ultimately however these houses will directly provide great relief for those seeking social housing, as well as indirectly benefiting the private rental market.

"Local authorities submitted applications for direct building programmes with approval being granted to over 100 projects nationally in just two months. Further assessments will be carried out throughout the rest of the year with some projects requiring planning approval. All will be completed by 2017."
