The Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, said it will be used to fund a new grants scheme for archaeologists and will be administered by the RIA's Standing Committee for Archaeology.

Minister Humphreys said: "UNSECO World Heritage Sites are deemed to have special cultural significance, and of course the UNSECO accreditation can greatly help to boost tourism.
"I am providing this small funding allocation to support research on our existing World Heritage Sites and the sites on Ireland's Tentative List for future World Heritage accreditation by UNESCO.
"The new research grant will help in the management of the archaeology within the core areas of these internationally important sites and to maintain and, where possible, enhance their Outstanding Universal Value."
