Dundrum Tenants Rehoused During Redevelopment

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has confirmed its decision to allow people to transfer from Rosemount Court, Dundrum to alternative accommodation from available housing stock.

The council is continuing to pursue the redevelopment of the area with the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, a spokeswoman said.

"Having regard to the current condition of the dwellings at Rosemount Court, the difficulty of carrying out major refurbishments while people were still living there and the delay in obtaining approval to proceed, the council has been considering the possibility of de-tenanting for some time and has been reserving available units," said the official.

In mid-September the council met with the Rosemount Court Redevelopment Steering Group and local councillors to inform them of the council's decision to allow tenants to transfer to alternative accommodation, based on their current housing need.

So far, the majority of the 42 tenants have expressed a willingness to transfer, and the council is writing to each tenant to request up to date information on their circumstances

The local housing department said it will be working with each tenant on an individual basis and where people are agreeable to a transfer, this will be arranged as quickly as possible.

"As with any redevelopment where people have had to transfer to facilitate works, tenants will be given the option to return to the area when these works have been completed," said the council spokeswoman.

She said discussions are ongoing with the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government in relation to the redevelopment proposal.

"Any works undertaken depends on the availability of capital funding and agreeing a final design, which will achieve best value for money and lay the foundations for a sustainable community," added the spokeswoman.
