New Cement Formula Launched

A new protein free cement product has been launched in Northern Ireland.

'Supaflo' - brought to the province by Cemex NI - is a unique protein free liquid cement, which the developer says is set to revolutionise the flooring solutions market.

The liquid cement known as a 'flowing screed' in the building trade has been developed by the scientific teams at both Cemex and Lafarge.

It has been formulated over many years and is now at the forefront of screed technology in the UK and Ireland.

Benefits of the solution are reportedly quicker application; better surface finish; attainable accuracy of placement and finishing; and reduction in thickness and substantial reduction of movement joints.

The protein free product - the first of its kind for Cemex NI - means that the cement cannot harbour any harmful bacteria making it the most suitable flooring material on the market for use in new hospitals, schools and nursing homes.

Paul Connolly, Regional Director for Cemex NI said the product is reactionary to building contract timeframes becoming shorter and increasingly tight on budget.

"We have reacted to the latest requirements of the building and construction industry and delivered a product which not only dries quicker, weighs less but has excellent thermal conductivity which means that it is suitable for buildings that need underfloor heating systems.

"It has taken years to come to this point but we feel that the product is now right and technically superior over conventional floor screeds."

Mr Connolly said the firm is currently working with a number of approved layers such as Formil Flooring and Clarke Contracts and have plans to expand its register so more construction companies and contractors can avail of the product.
