Coleraine Borough Council has recruited town planning and urban design consultants Colin Buchanan & Partners to develop strategy documents for Portstewart, Garvagh, Kilrea and Castlerock.

The outcome of this work will be a "vision for the future" of each of these areas, according to the council, and provide a delivery framework within which they can develop in a sustainable manner.

"The challenges faced by these towns and villages will inevitably vary, and it will be critical that emerging objectives and priorities are developed as a direct response to the unique character of each place," said a council spokeswoman.

The project aims to provide a framework for the physical regeneration, development and presentation of each location within the wider context of a progressive and developing local economy.

"Importantly it will enable actions to be identified, agreed and collectively prioritised around a new dynamic, building upon the benefits associated with the strategic location, removing physical, infrastructural and development constraints, enabling appropriate growth and identifying strategic and site specific opportunities," added the council official.

The council said it welcomed public feedback throughout the study, and a series of consultation events have been scheduled.
