A new government laboratory building has been recognised by one of Ireland's leading architectural awards scheme.
Backweston Campus, in Celbridge, was constructed for the Department of Agriculture, Food and Fisheries by Walls Construction.
The completed project has now scooped the OPUS Architectural and Construction Award 2009 for buildings over €20m.
Designers at the Office of Public Works created the architectural lay out of the facility, which prompted its nomination.
Walls Construction paid tribute to its on-site team, lauding the quality of finish and standard of workmanship achieved on the project.
A two-year civil building project in Co Westmeath was also presented with one of the top architectural awards.
The county council facility, in Mullingar, was opened on 11 June, having incorporated several sustainable systems into its design.
