A proposal to open an amusement arcade in Bray has been met by opposition from councillors.
Yesterdays meeting of the Bray Town Council saw several members oppose a planning application by Brian Mohan to renovate a carpet sales unit in the Florence Road area of the town into an arcade.
The application was lodged last month.
"It would be totally out of character," said Councillor Pat Vance, reported in the Bray People.
"Areas were zoned in certain locations years ago for gaming. Florence Road was not one of them. There will be serious repercussions if this is allowed. We do not want an amusement arcade in the middle of the town."
Councillor John Byrne also voiced his concern over the development.
"We as a council were very successful in restricting areas where gaming can take place," he said.
Councillor Eugene Finnegan said he believed the existing retail outlets of the main shopping area in Bray should be enhanced rather than any new developments being considered.
