A company that is under threat from being struck off the register has applied to build a 149-bedroom hotel in Dublin, according to a newspaper report.

Wellington General Partner, headed by developer Frank Gormley, was listed for strike-off by the Companies Office last November.

However, the company has re-applied for permission to South Dublin County Council to level the existing Spawell centre in Templeogue and construction the hotel and a separate leisure centre on the site, the Irish Independent reports.

Planned facilities for the new leisure centre include a swimming pool and a driving range.

Mr Gormley chairs Howard Eurocape, which specialises in construction projects in South Africa as well as Ireland. He has previously founded Howard Holdings, but sold his 30% stake in the business for an estimated €500m in 2006.

Grainne Hollywood, Eurocape's managing director, told the paper that application was being made as existing permission for the exact same re-development is due to expire in August. She added that the strike-off status for Wellington General Partner is a result of overdue filings and that the position would be rectified in coming weeks.

Planning permission on a particular site remains valid even if the company behind the project has been dissolved.
