A monument in Carlow Town commemorating the United Irishmens' Rebellion of 1798 is to be sold to a developer.
Dolmen Estates Ltd has confirmed that the fountain structure will remain intact, according to the Carlow People.
However, there remains a possibility of the monument being moved to another part of the town.
During a recent meeting of the county’s councillors, County Manager, Tom Barry said the transfer of the land to Dolmen Estates would help settle four high court cases that the company is bringing against them.
"The preservation of the monument is tied into the agreement," said Mr Barry.
Despite some concerns being expressed over the move, the proposals were passed by a majority vote.
The Liberty Tree sculpture was designed by John Behan as a tribute to the 600 rebels and civilians that died in the Battle of Carlow, during the 1798 rising.
