Irish Environment Minister, John Gormley has given approval to Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown County Council to put Contract No. 2 of the Shanganagh/Bray Sewerage Scheme out to tender.
The contract will be funded under his Department’s recently published Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2012, at an estimated cost of €6.9m. It will comprise the construction of a stormwater storage tank in Bray and a large rising main from the Bray Pumping Station to Shanganagh Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is presently under construction.
"I expect very significant improvements in environmental and water quality standards to accrue from this scheme," the Minister said.
"It reflects the Government’s commitment to continuing investment in the country’s wastewater schemes to ensure that discharges into our rivers, lakes and coastal water meet the highest international standards."
