A new €3.1m purpose-built centre for children in West Cork will be officially opened today by Minister Micheál Martin
The Children Services Centre at St Mary’s Road, Dunmanway has come about as a result of a partnership between the Health Service Executive (HSE) and CoAction, a West Cork-based organisation that provides services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
Both organisations collaborated together to facilitate the integration of children’s services on one site enabling a range of experienced health professionals to work together, sharing expertise, facilities and resources and providing opportunities for integration, co-operation and shared planning of current and future developments.
Reggie Chambers, Chairman of CoAction West Cork acknowledged the partnership approach between CoAction and the HSE and said: "This unique development provides a one stop shop quality service for all children with disabilities in West Cork. For the first time, we have CoAction and HSE staff working side by side, sharing resources and facilities ensuring all our resources maximised.
"This partnership approach to providing services can only benefit children in the region and we are delighted, for all concerned, to formally mark this very special day."
The main contractor of the scheme was Cahalane Brothers of Dunmanway.
