SDLP Newcastle Councillor Eamonn O'Neill has welcomed the news that Bryansford GAA's application for new playing fields has finally been granted full planning permission.

Cllr O’Neill said: "This is fantastic news for Bryansford club and is long overdue. The delay in this decision was unnecessary and ill founded.

"If it were not for direct political interference by the DUP both at local and at ministerial level, permission could have been granted and these matters resolved at a much earlier stage."

He continued: "I want to congratulate Bryansford GAA for their dignity, patience and determination throughout this process. They stayed above all the sectarian manipulations and kept focused on the provision of a quality sporting provision for the future generations of young people in the area. I wish them well with this new development."
