Big name Irish builders, WR McAllister and Heron brothers are enjoying a boost this summer as work moves up a gear at a substantial Co Down project.

Newtownards motor insurance broker, Hughes Insurance, has commissioned a £2m building project at its base in the town in preparation for larger expansion that is to create up to 200 jobs.

The investment by the largest independent broker in the province, will double the size of the current premises and comes in response to the steady growth the firms has enjoyed since 1977.

Work began in Jun e on the 20,000 sq ft extension to the premises at Jubilee Road and is due for completion in mid 2011.

The building work is also supporting other local businesses with W.R. McAlister handling the architecture and project management and local contractor Heron Brothers Ltd. handling the construction.
