The Irish construction sector has received some good news this week with confirmation that work on the €20 million-plus development of a new unit at a Dublin hospital is to commence immediately.
John Paul Construction is expected to begin the contract for the development of a cystic fibrosis (CF) unit at St Vincent's hospital in Dublin after the contract was signed on Thursday.
The area for the unit has been cleared, finance is in place and a completion date is scheduled for mid-2012.
The unit is to be a five-storey, 100-bed hospital block of which two storeys and 30-35 beds in individual en suite units and will be dedicated to cystic fibrosis patients.
This move in the face of a growing recession is being seen as a victory for cystic fibrosis campaigners who have ling sought such a resource.
