Builders 'Blush' Supports Cancer Fight

Construction News Image
Forget the ruddy complexion normally associated with all weather-workers such as builders - one NI firm has gone pink, but all in a good cause.

Geda Construction, a civil engineering and construction company from Dungannon went pink in support of the Ulster Cancer Foundation's (UCF) Think Pink! breast cancer awareness campaign. All personnel and visitors to Geda's site, the Diamond Hall at the University of Ulster, Coleraine wore pink hard hats provided by the firm to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Anyone visiting or passing the site were also invited to make a donation to UCF's campaign.

Tania McCarten, Partner at Geda Construction said: "This is the second year that we have raised funds for UCF and we hope to beat our target of £2,722 which was raised last year."

The impetus to raise funds for the Think Pink breast cancer awareness campaign came from Lesley Anne Mullen, a Geda Construction employee who helped to organise the fundraising event in memory of her mum who sadly passed away from breast cancer.

"Breast cancer affects the whole family, not just the person who has been diagnosed.

"That's why I feel it is important to support a local charity that helps patients and their families.

"The Ulster Cancer Foundation provides a range of services including support groups, counselling and a family support service free of charge, which can make this time of extreme stress a little more bearable and help to improve quality of life," she explained.
