Over 6,000 people have nominated Samuel Beckett Bridge as the Engineering Project of the Year in the 2010 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.
The Samuel Beckett Bridge fought off stiff competition from the Limerick Tunnel PPP Scheme (placed 2nd), the Convention Centre, Dublin (placed 3rd), and the Aviva Stadium to name but a few, and, in the end there were only some 160 votes between first and third place, reinforcing the quality and appeal of the shortlisted entries.
The bridge was entered into the competition by the client, Dublin City Council; however representatives from the Graham Hollandia JV and the design team also attended the awards ceremony.
This follows on from the recent success at the Dutch Steelwork Awards where the bridge was described as a "well-considered and elegant country mark for Dublin".
