A housing firm has offered householders in four Irish estates a share of €7m to compensate for structural defects.
Menolly Homes wants over 700 families in north Co Dublin to drop legal action over defects, such as the swelling and cracking of walls and ceilings, caused by the presence of the mineral pyrite which swells when it comes into contact with water.
The deal would see homeowners receiving up to €10,000 each and repair work/rebuilding of ground floors, however at least 85 per cent of the residents must agree to the deal for it to take effect by Friday.
Homeowners have been angered by the ultimatum.
