An appeal against a planned supermarket project in Co Galway has been dismissed by the Irish planning body, which has now given the green light for construction.
Joyces Supermarket Ltd has successfully bid for the building of a mixed use development at Headford, Co Galway, now that An Bord
Pleanala dismissed the appeal in December and granted permission with revised conditions.
The approved plans comprise the redevelopment of the existing supermarket/superstore and the construction of a new supermarket, including off-licence, to incorporate part of the existing supermarket (total gross floor area 3,112 square metres) and nine commercial/retail units (total gross floor area 889 square metres) as well as four first floor office units (total gross floor space 444 square metres).
The formation of a new shop unit will form part of the former supermarket (gross floor area269 square metres) and will also include general storage buildings and residential access from a lobby to ancillary supermarket offices at ground floor level.
Minor alterations to the internal layout of the ancillary supermarket areas and all ancillary works and car parking is also included and the development will include the demolition of two dwellings and parts of the existing structures on site, including the superstore and elements of the supermarket and related buildings.
