Church Extension Moves Forward

The main contractor has now been appointed for the construction of a two-storey extension at the Church of the Sacred Heart, Lough Egish, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan.

The extension is to be built to the north elevation of the building to house a new public entrance, new toilets, sacristy, plant room and storage facilities.

The altar Dias is to be extended and the existing altar relocated. A small number of the existing timber pews will be removed to facilitate this. A new sedelia and ambo are to be installed to match the existing reredos and altar. The existing statues to the reredos are to be recessed into wall niches. The baptismal font is to be relocated. The existing carpet and concrete slab floor finishes to be replaced with a ceramic tile and parquet finish. The front of the nave balustrade is to be relocated 1 metre north of the existing position.

The nave gallery balustrade is to be lowered and supplemented with a new glazed brass balustrade; a similar detail will be installed to the transept galleries. An extension to the existing random rumble wall of the car park is to be built with associated new timber gate. A new hard ground surface is to be provided for access to the new north entrance. A new heating system is to be installed along with a new boiler. A new foul water drainage system is to be constructed to route through the existing graveyard leading to a proprietary treatment system with proposed direct discharge to the surface water. The developments are to a protected structure (Ref 41402409) and its curtilage.

According to www.unearthore.com an official start date and contract period have not yet been confirmed.
