The main contractor has been appointed for the construction of the A20 Kempe Stones Road, Newtownards Resurfacing Works.

The works by Northstone (NI) Ltd will overlay the west bound sides of the existing dual carriageway over a length of approx. 2,200m. The overlay will comprise 60mm of AC20 Dense Binder 40/60 rec. Binder Course and be finished with 40mm of Thin Surfacing Surface Course with 14mm aggregate in the carriageways.

The cost of the scheme is in the region of £400,000.

According to the website www.unearthore.com the works will require the contractor to carry out the following principal work activities:-

• Laying Asphalt mixes using mechanical means;

• kerbing;

• Provision of approx 1,110 m of Road Restraint systems

• Traffic Management; and

• Road Marking / Studs/ cats' eyes.

Main construction work is expected to commence on site during late May, 2011 and the contract duration is approximately 1 month.
