The contract will see the reconstruction of two short lengths of existing collapsed quay wall in Cork.
The main contractor, BAM Contractors Ltd, has been appointed for the works involved which will involve the reconstruction of two short lengths of existing collapsed quay wall and the carrying out of remedial work to various lengths of a number of quay walls, all in a tidal river and urban environment.

According to the website www.unearthore.com revealed that the reconstruction work will involve reinforced concrete retaining walls with stone facing, prior removal of existing rock fill embankments, associated road works and services, all necessary temporary works.
Remedial work will involve cleaning, repointing, grouting and masonry repairs to existing masonry quay walls, plus under-wall soil grouting, possible mini-piling. All of the above may be carried out in a single contract or in a number of contracts.
Main construction work is expected to commence on site on 16th May, with the contract period estimated at six months in a scheme that will cost in the region of €5m.
The consulting engineer is Arup Consulting Engineers and the awarding authority, Cork City Council.
