In a significant move forward the main contractor has been appointed for an extension of a national school in Cavan.

P McGovern and Son have been appointed as the new contractor to complete the work at Laragh National School, Stradone.

The extension will contain four classrooms with toilets and stores and a new general-purpose room with toilets and a store.

In addition existing school accommodation will be restored. This will include the demolition of the existing single-storey prefabs and existing single-storey covered shelter and water tower.

Meanwhile permission was also approved for 3 flag poles and temporary relocation of a detached single-storey prefabricated classroom.

During the project P Mc Govern and Son will complete a new proprietary sewerage treatment system together with a new off street parking and bus drop off and all associated site works.

It is expected that the work will be complete by late September, 2011. The value of the scheme is in the region of €1m .
