ARENA Achievement for GRAHAM Construction

A Northern Ireland based construction company has maintained a benchmarking top spot for the fourth year running.

ARENA Network's 13th Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey ceremony saw GRAHAM successfully hold their standing as one of the top nine companies for the fourth year in a row.

The survey, widely recognised as the benchmark for environmental implementation in Northern Ireland, examines the top 200 companies, 26 local authorities, 5 Health Trusts and the education sector, with the aim to measure the extent to which these organisations are managing environmental issues.

Commending all the participants for the leadership achievements, Environment Minister Alex Attwood, delivered the keynote address: "The ARENA Network Survey is strategically important for businesses and the public sector because it challenges all of us to do the right thing to protect our environment while delivering clear business benefits for participants."

ARENA continue to welcome companies outside the top 200 to participate in the survey, to start making improvements and realise the gains this approach brings, both financially and environmentally.

Peter Dixon, Chair, ARENA Network explains: "Given the difficult economic conditions, the fact that environmental savings often translate into business savings is arguably one factor that is helping drive continued environmental and improved business performance."

Participants are invited to complete the survey, based on the Index of Corporate Environmental Engagement developed by Business in the Environment (ARENA's counterpart in England). The questionnaire deals with 3 main areas of interest; environmental management, how participants measure and report their performance and assurance practice.

"This year, the Survey was made even more robust and results prove that businesses here are leading the way in terms of environmental improvement and performance management." added Dixon.
