UPC Takes Proactive Approach To Pylon Concerns

Fine Gael Meath West TD, Ray Butler, has said he is delighted that UPC is taking a proactive approach to concerns he has raised with the company about a pylon located at Mornington Heights in Trim.

Deputy Butler met with the company recently as part of his on-going efforts to get the pylon removed.

He said: "I have been working to try to get this pylon removed for many years. Not only is it located in a housing estate, it’s also beside St Mary's National School, and it’s been an issue of concern for local residents for a long time. It's not just an eyesore; there are legitimate health concerns about its location so close to the school.

"This matter has been dragging on for a long time; I had liaised with UPC's predecessor Chorus, but it was next to impossible to make any progress with the company. I am very happy that UPC is taking a much more proactive approach. The company has indicated that it will be taking action on a number of fronts to move this problem forward.

"First of all, UPC has agreed to carry out a full cost analysis to see whether it's possible to remove the pylon and connect the 600 or so homes in Trim it services to fibre-optic broadband cables. UPC has promised to keep me up to date on when this has been carried out.

"The pylon is also used by LMFM Radio. I have proposed that the LMFM equipment could be moved to an alternative site that I have located. The company have been in touch with the station to start discussions in this regard."
