The Technical Engineering and Electrical Union (TEEU) General Secretary, Eamon Devoy, described the mood at well-attended regional meetings recently as "buoyant but determined not to endure any more pay cuts."
Two motions were unanimously adopted at the Dublin meeting, the sentiments of which were echoed at the other meetings held in Cork, Waterford, Limerick and Galway.
Firstly, no further pay cuts, in any form, will be tolerated, and secondly, in the absence of the last agreement being registered with the Labour Court as committed to by the Engineering Employers, the restoration of the pay cuts implemented under the MEBSCA Agreement in February 2011 to be restored.
Action Committees were formed in each region that will culminate in a TEEU - National Consultative Committee for the Mechanical Contracting Industry.
Eamon Devoy added: "Should the employers pursue their unconscionable claim the membership will be mobilised into defensive action immediately and in the meantime registration of the February 2011 agreement will be vigorously pursued."
