McDonnell Calls Urgent Meeting With NIW Over Belfast Flooding

SDLP Leader and South Belfast MP Dr Alasdair McDonnell has called for an urgent meeting with NI Water following heavy and destructive flooding in the Upper Malone Road area of South Belfast.

He said: "Flooding during heavy rainfall has been a consistent problem in parts of South Belfast. Greystone Park, Finnis Park, Sicily Park and the Upper Malone Road area are always hit particularly hard.

"The flooding is so bad this evening that a fire engine has had to be deployed to pump water out of the street.

"This is totally unacceptable especially since this is not the first time this has happened. Previously residents have had property destroyed from rain induced flooding.

"I have contacted NI Water this evening to request an urgent meeting to address the ongoing flooding problems. Residents cannot be expected to continue to live in anxiety every time heavy rain is forecast."
