Dublin City Councillor Louise Minihan has called on homeowners to maintain their boycott of the Home Tax and bin the latest threatening letters from the Local Government Management Agency [LGMA].
Cllr Minihan was responding to an announcement from the LGMA, in which the agency stated that is was preparing to send a second round of 'reminder letters' to homeowners who have not paid the Home Tax. While thefirst round of letters was aimed at landlords and other multi-property owners, this second round will be aimed at owner-occupiers who make up the vast majority of those participating in the boycott.
Speaking from Ballyfermot, Minihan said: "I would encourage people not to be intimidated by these threatening letters from the LGMA. The best place for them is the bin. The fact that Fine Gael and Labour are now threatening families who have refused to pay the Home Tax shows just how effective the boycott has become. Their threats smack of the desperation of a government that is hopelessly out of touch with the people.
"Hundreds of thousands of families from Cork to Donegal and from Kerry to Dublin continue to boycott Hogan’s Home tax. Government threats will only serve to strengthen that boycott and the campaign against the Home Tax."
