SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan joined staff and pupils from Hollybush Primary School in Derry to raise the prestigious Green Flag in celebration of winning a coveted Eco-Schools award.
Mr Durkan, who attended the flag-raising ceremony with schoolchildren and the Chair of the board of governors John Kelpie, said: "It is great to see Hollybush receive a Green Flag in recognition of all their hard work to make the school more environmentally-friendly – going above and beyond to embrace what it really means to be an eco-school.
"There has been a great improvement in the school’s energy efficiency and its use of biomass heating, which all helps to save on the school budget as well as the environment.
"I commend the teachers and the eco-committee for all their hard work, and have also been very impressed with the display work by the children, which shows such awareness and care for their own place and the planet."
