£6m Granted To Protect 1700 Homes

East Belfast DUP MLA Sammy Douglas has welcomed the announcement from the Agriculture Minister Michelle O'Neill that £6m will be spent to protect up to 1700 homes from flooding in East Belfast.

The money will be used to help alleviate flooding as part of the £32m Connswater Community Greenway. Sammy, who has been Project Champion of the Connswater Community Greenway since its inception said: "I welcome this announcement by the Minister which is good news for East Belfast and will secure the future for the Connswater Community Greenway."

He paid tribute to First Minister Rt. Hon. Peter Robinson and Finance Minister Sammy Wilson who helped to secure the funding through the NI Executive at Stormont.

"This funding will help to get the scheme back on track and tackle flood alleviation at long last. It has been a frustrating time for all concerned and this news will be welcomed by the Connswater Community Greenway staff who are delivering one of the biggest and exciting greenways in Europe."
