SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan has called on the Northern Ireland Housing Executive(NIHE) to clean up the former Glen Flats site.

Mr Durkan said: "I worked hard to secure the demolition of the Glen flats, which had become a magnet for anti-social behaviour and an eyesore.

"While their removal was celebrated by the long-suffering residents of the Glen area, the subsequent neglect of the site by the Housing Executive as we await the construction of new homes has led to a recurrence of problems in the area. There is illegal dumping on the site which has resulted in an infestation of rats.

"Furthermore, the apparent reluctance of the NIHE to remove graffiti from the retaining wall is a cause of great concern to residents.

"I have contacted NIHE about the need to carry out extensive and effective improvements in the area; as it is having a ghettoising effect on the Glen as a whole."
