Health Minister Edwin Poots today welcomed Alex Attwood's announcement of planning permission for the new local hospital and health and care centre in Omagh.

The Health Minister said: "This is excellent news for the local area and brings us one step closer to having a high-quality and modern hospital and health and care centre for the people in the area. Construction work on this project will mean more jobs in the Omagh area."

Environment Minister Attwood said: "Economically this is a further boost for Omagh after my Department’s recent approval for the £25million redevelopment of the former Scott’s Mill site. This further investment will secure hundreds of real jobs in the long term and construction jobs in the short term."

"I am determined that my Planning Department makes decisions swiftly, particularly those decisions where job opportunities are at stake. However this is only after giving careful consideration to the individual merits of each case."

The development also includes new car parking and emergency heli-pad and associated site works on the 14 hectare site. The overall scheme includes improvements to the road network to improve access to the hospital.
