EirGrid has expanded the information provided via its website to include a map showing transmission system disturbances.
As the operator of the high voltage National Grid EirGrid is committed to providing Irish electricity users with reliable, stable, and high quality supplies. In common with other electricity transmission systems, the grid in Ireland experiences a number of disturbances each year for reasons outside of EirGrid's control.
The majority of these disturbances are due to lightning and storms and result in a brief decrease in the local voltage until the affected equipment is automatically isolated. Generally, such voltage dips last for less than a tenth of a second and are unobserved by the end-user.
The Transmission System Disturbance Map has been developed to present open
and up-to-date information on these disturbances. It can be viewed at the following
link: www.eirgrid.com/operations/transmissionsystemdisturbancemap/
Already, the EirGrid site contains information on the all island fuel mix, the
availability of generators, the output of wind generators, and on system demand, as
well as CO2 intensity and much more.
