Electric Ireland Become GAA's Official Energy Partner

Electric Ireland teamed up with Alan Brogan and Henry Shefflin to announce they have become the GAA's Official Energy Partner until 2016.

The new partnership between Electric Ireland and the GAA will result in a series of new initiatives designed to promote energy efficiency across GAA clubs over the coming years. It is an extension of the Cúl Green initiative with Croke Park which resulted in the stadium becoming more energy efficient.

As a result of the project which ran from 2008-2011, Croke Park now recycles or composts 62% of stadium waste. At the end of 2011, the stadium also enjoyed a reduction of 29% to their gas bill, 31% to electricity usage and a reduction of 28% of water usage, a saving of 370,000 litres of water per day. Electric Ireland is also planning to support the partnership with new affinity programmes for GAA clubs nationwide over the coming years.

Speaking at the launch, Brid Horan, Executive Director, Electric Ireland said: "Electric Ireland is delighted to continue its strong relationship with the GAA through our role as Official Energy Partner of the GAA. We have seen the fantastic work done by the GAA in local communities in clubs throughout the country and we look forward to working with the GAA over the coming years to determine what additional benefits we can bring at local and national level. We also announced a five year sponsorship with the GAA Minor Hurling and Football Championship early this year. We believe both sponsorships will complement each other and enable us to support the communities in which we operate our business."
