Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced completion of works on the UK City of Culture Events Pavilion.

Now known as 'the Venue'’ at Ebrington, it has been constructed to facilitate events planned as part of the UK City of Culture 2013 programme.

The contractors appointed to build the facility, Extraspace Ltd, have now completed their works and have officially handed the Venue over to the Department.

Minister McCausland said: "The completion of the pavilion is another key milestone in the preparation for the UK City of Culture 2013. The facility will be one of the key venues for Londonderry in 2013 and will host a range of events that will attract both local residents and many visitors. I congratulate all those involved in the delivery of this project."

Essential services such as box office management, duty managers, Front of House and general event crew, security and stewarding, catering and bar concessions, cleansing and waste management and electrical, medical and venue technical services have been contracted out by the Venue operator.

The project was delivered in partnership between the Department, Strategic Investment Board, Central Procurement Directorate and Ilex Urban Regeneration Company. The UK City of Culture 2013 events in the Venue will commence on 20 January 2013 with the Sons and Daughter's concert.
