HE Executive Tenants Get New Windows Costing Almost £185,000

Construction News Image
As part of the ongoing regeneration of the Village area in South Belfast, 94 Housing Executive tenants are getting new windows in a scheme costing almost £185,000.

This brings the Housing Executive's (HE) investment in the area over the last few months to more than £750,000.

The homes, which were built in the early 1900s, are a mixture of two and three storey houses which are located in the Village Improvement Area. The HE have upgraded the homes on a regular basis, with many of the properties recently having new kitchens installed. Ninety four tenants will now have their old windows replaced with new uPVC doubled glazed units. This is part of our commitment to have all our homes double glazed by 2015.

Assistant District Manager Francie Brown said: "The work is being carried out as part of wider plans for the Village area, which involves the modernisation of homes in the Village Improvement Area as well as the provision of new homes in the Redevelopment Area.

"I’m delighted to see this scheme getting underway. It is another step towards bringing these homes, and the entire area, up to the standard that residents deserve. And, as it comes only months after the kitchen replacement scheme, it really does bring double benefits for many of our tenants."

Lorraine Fosset was one of the first tenants to get new windows as part of the scheme. "The new windows really do make a huge difference and definitely look a lot better." she said. The house also feels warmer and less drafty and that will be a bonus if this winter is anything like previous ones.

"I would like to say a big thank you to my Housing Officer Gail Barr and the workmen from PK Murphy - they were really good with me and to be honest the benefits far outweigh any disruption there was while the windows were being installed."
