Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has said that the planning notice for the €3m Endoscopy Project, which appears in this week's edition of the Roscommon Herald, is clear evidence of the positive future for Roscommon Hospital, its staff and local communities.
Mr Feighan said: "This week, the design team, through the planning notice, are seeking full planning permission for the endoscopy unit at Roscommon Hospital. Following the publication of the notice, the team, which includes Roscommon company, Varming Consulting M & E Engineers, will then be ready to lodge the full planning application with Roscommon County Council.
"I would like to pay tribute to all the members of the Endoscopy Project Team who have ensured that this flagship project has reached another critical milestone. Once the endoscopy suite is fully operational, it's expected that 30 procedures a day will be performed at the new facility.
"When the endoscopy unit is complete, I also expect that Roscommon Hospital will become a recognised centre for the National Cancer Screening Programme and be able to facilitate patients from other hospitals in order to reduce waiting times for other procedures."
