Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D. Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, has announced that, subject to Roscommon County Council making some minor adjustments to the contract documents, he has given the Council approval to invite tenders for the DBO Water Treatment Works contracts for the Arigna, Boyle/Ardcarne, Roscommon Central and South Roscommon Regional Water Supply Schemes.

Me Hogan said: "These vitally important projects which are being funded under my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013 as contracts to commence construction during the period of that programme at an estimated cost of €20.23 million. The works will provide for the development of the production wells, including chambers, pumps, rising mains to the Water Treatment Plants and associated telemetry, the provision of appropriate barriers to Cryptosporidium and treatment and disposal of any sludge and wastes generated

"My approval reflects the commitment in the programme for Government that our public drinking water supplies will deliver a reliable service that is 100% compliant with drinking water standards. In this case, the proposed scheme will ensure that consumers in the Arigna, Boyle/Ardcarne, Roscommon Central and South Roscommon areas will have a high quality water supply that will have capacity to meet current & future needs."
