Northern Ireland's Stormont building is to under go refurbishment.

As part of the work, it is understood the Parliamentary building will have a new roof installed, according to the Belfast Telegraph.

The building, which is 92-years-old, will see its current roof replaced as solar panels and rainwater harvesting are installed.

Accommodation on the fourth floor will also be carried out.

The work also means that a number of offices will have to be temporarily relocated due to the disruption.

Pat Ramsey, a member of the Assembly Commission, said the refurbishment is vital due to Stormont being a listed building.

He said:"For a number of years there have been problems with water ingress to the roof in Parliament Buildings, causing damage to the fabric of this building which is a listed building. Short-term repairs have been made in recent years but it is now essential to undertake a major project to safeguard the long-term future of this building."

Around £4.5m is to be spent on the project. The cost does not include external fees.
