Ecocem Ireland Sponsors Eimear Carlin On Antartica Expedition

Ecocem Ireland has welcomed Eimear Carlin back to Ireland after her recent expedition to Antarctica with 2041.

Ecocem Ireland sponsored Eimear on the unique expedition to the Antarctic region which highlighted the impact our environmental choices are having on the Antarctica ecosystem. As a result of Eimear's participation she will now be uniquely positioned to share her experiences and knowledge gained in schools, organisations and businesses across Ireland.

The vision of 2041, which was founded by Polar explorer Robert Swan OBE, is to encourage dialogue between young leaders and large industry representatives centred on energy issues in the unique setting supplied by the Antarctic. The aim of the expedition is to create plans and workable solutions for our future. Eimear was joined by young leaders from 28 diverse countries from Oman to Botswana. Also on board were teachers, activists, journalists and entrepreneurs.

Speaking about the expedition, Eimear Carlin said: "It is unquestionable that Antarctica needs to be protected, not only for future generations of humans but for the good of the planet right now. I was incredibly proud to be Ecocem's representative on this magnificent expedition. My life has been changed irrecoverably, and I look forward to sharing my story and inspiring other to make positive change in their businesses, schools and communities in terms of sustainability and raising awareness of the protection of the last great wilderness on our planet, Antarctica."

"Now that I am back in Ireland I am starting an initiative in schools across Ireland to get 2041 young people to create their own climate change projects, whether it is planting a tree or being responsible for turning off all lights, checking taps etc. in their home before bedtime. Simple acts can make a huge change. In doing so, kids will get to be Mini Climate Ambassadors in their own right. It's about instilling a more sustainable attitude to energy and resource use from an early age."
