Fine Gael Roscommon/South Leitrim TD, Frank Feighan, has welcomed the approval of €172,793 in LEADER funding for the development of an outdoor recreational and amenity facility for quad biking in Springfield, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Roscommon.

Mr Feighan said: "I welcome the decision by the Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan TD, to give the go ahead to Roscommon Leader Partnership Company to approve funding of €172,793 to Carrick Quad Adventures Ltd for the development of a quad biking facility at Springfield.

"This funding has been approved under the diversification into non-agricultural activities measure of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013.

"As Minister Hogan has noted, this development is a unique tourism and leisure project for the region which will greatly add to the facilities available for visitors to the area, by complementing existing facilities and providing a greater choice of activities. The project is expected to cost a total of €286,775."
