Roads Service Commended For Completing Road Schemes

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has commended Roads Service and its contractors for the successful completion of road schemes in 2012/2013, which accounted for £2.5million investment in the roads infrastructure in the Moyle area.

Speaking ahead of the meeting between Roads Service and Moyle District Council, Minister Kennedy said: "In the last financial year, my Department invested over £100million in structural maintenance, improving many miles of the road infrastructure across Northern Ireland.

"In particular in the Moyle District, despite ever increasing demands on budgets, Roads Service invested over £2.5million in the delivery of a comprehensive range of road schemes and maintenance work.

"Roads Service is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in Moyle District Council area and across Northern Ireland."

Commenting on the proposed dualling of seven kilometres of the A26 Frosses Road between Glarryford Crossroads and Drones Road the Minister said that he will, in due course, issue a response in the form of a Departmental Statement which will be published alongside the Inspector’s Report which the Department has just received following the public inquiries for the scheme.

The Minister said: "The completion of missing links of footway on Whitepark Road, Ballycastle will improve safety for pedestrians and vulnerable road users at this location, as will the installation of a PUFFIN pedestrian crossing on Moyle Road, Ballycastle in the vicinity of the schools. A junction visibility improvement scheme was also completed last year at the junction of Churchfield Road / Glenshesk Road.

"This year it is proposed to erect a vehicle restraint system on the outside of the bend on the Magheramore Road just south of Moyarget Road junction where there is a significant drop into a farm yard at the back of the verge. Consideration is also being given for traffic management measures in Cushendall village and for a traffic calming scheme at Whitehall, Ballycastle."
