Social Development Minister Nelson McCausland has announced funding of £106,000 to aid a number of projects to revitalise Cookstown town centre.
The funding was allocated to Cookstown District Council who will manage the delivery of the project. Initiatives included in the revitalisation project include free Wi-Fi, branded street banners, shutter art to vacant shop units, window displays on vacant properties and branded 'bags for life'.
Minister McCausland said: "I am pleased that through my Department's Revitalisation Scheme a number of innovative projects have been developed and delivered within Cookstown town centre. Through the delivery of these projects, Cookstown has enhanced its townscape and become a Wi-Fi hotspot.
"In the current economic climate, I am acutely aware that a local customer base is essential in any town for the survival of local businesses. It is therefore essential that through partnership working, we strive to ensure Cookstown retains a unique identity and remains a viable and vibrant town centre which appeals to shoppers and visitors alike."
