Dublin City Council has announced the shortlist for the naming of the new bridge over the Liffey at Marlborough Street.

There were 85 official nominations received along with almost 10,000 supporting submissions, including e-mails, direct correspondence and petitions.

At the meeting of Dublin City Council’s Commemorative Naming Committee yesterday, the 85 nominations were shortlisted to 17. The shortlisted names will be reviewed at the next meeting of the Committee on 12th June 2013.

"This process has assisted in bringing to public attention people and events that have made a unique and outstanding contribution to the life and history of Dublin. It has brought into focus a rich variety of names, many of which will give the City Council suggestions for the naming of infrastructure into the future," Councillor Dermot Lacey, Chairman.
