Regional Development Minister, Danny Kennedy, said that he intends to introduce the initiatives from the Rebuilding Britain Campaign into his Department's procurement process.

The Minister made his comments following a meeting with the British Constructional Steelwork Association and members of the Northern Ireland Region, regarding the procurement guidelines for constructional steelwork on public infrastructure projects.

Mr Kennedy said: "Use of high quality specialist sub-contractors is essential for all infrastructure construction. The Rebuilding Britain Campaign provides a framework to assist clients in the procurement of steelwork suppliers and constructors, for example through the Register of Qualified Steelwork Contractors and National Highway Sector Schemes. The benefits are apparent in terms of health and safety, environmental and quality control."
