Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has commended Roads Service and its contractors for the successful completion of road maintenance schemes totalling £7.4million in 2012/2013.
The Minister said: "In the last financial year, my Department has invested over £100million in structural maintenance improving the road infrastructure across Northern Ireland.
"Despite ever increasing demands on budgets, Roads Service invested nearly seven and a half million pounds on maintenance works in the Newry and Mourne area. Roads Service is using its available resources highly effectively and continues to deliver quality public services in Newry and Mourne district council and across Northern Ireland."
Previewing the work scheduled in the area over the next year the Minister said: "Roads Service's proposed programme for this financial year will see road improvements on A37 Concession Road, Cullaville at Clonalig Primary School. This scheme will provide a pedestrian link from Cullaville village to Clonalig Primary School. In addition we intend to carry out an extensive programme of resurfacing works including A2 Kilmorey Street, Newry; A28 Armagh Road at Cranky; B7 Bridge Street, Burren and B8 Castlewellan Road, Hilltown."
