Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy welcomed the commencement of a £90,000 resurfacing scheme on the B96 Townhill Road, Rasharkin.

The work began on Monday, 17th June, and will extend from the junction with Dreen Road northwards for a distance of approximately one kilometre.

The Minister said: "This 1km resurfacing scheme will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of the carriageway of this important link between Rasharkin and Portglenone.

"The work will also include new road drainage."

To help minimise inconvenience to the travelling public, residents in the area and local businesses, much of the work is scheduled to be carried out under local temporary traffic control. However, the road will be closed to through traffic during daytime working hours from Tuesday 18th June to Friday 21st June and again on Monday 24 June to facilitate the main resurfacing. Local traffic diversions using Dreen Road, Lisnahuncheon Road and Bann Road will be signposted during the road closures.

The scheme is expected to be completed by mid-next week.
